The newest edition in the Nike Pegasus line – Pegasus 37 has had some major changes in its revamped midsole, a more substantial Air Zoom unit and a refreshed upper.

Midsole

Unlike the Pegasus 36 which has a traditional EVA foam midsole called Cushion, the Pegasus 37 has a brand new midsole made from React foam which makes it softer than previous versions of the Pegasus. It features an increasing size of the Air Zoom bag under the forefoot to create a bouncier and more responsive feel.

Upper

The Pegasus 37 and Pegasus 36 use engineered mesh with traditional lacing in their uppers. The difference between the two shoes is that the Pegasus 37 uses a more airy, lighter, and translucent mesh which translates to a more breathable shoe. This edition also keeps the padded heel collar.

Outsole

The main difference between the two shoes is the change from pentagon-shaped lugs to waffle-shaped lugs. In general, the outsole of both Pegasus 36 and 37 are very similar and grip well on all types of surfaces. Both shoes have a decoupling groove which separates the lateral crash rail from the rest of the outsole and a space under the centre of the heel with no rubber to make the heel more cushioned.

Running Performance

The forefoot Zoom Air bag in the Pegasus 37 has a 10mm thick bag compared to the full-length 4mm thick Zoom Air unit in the Pegasus 36. The Pegasus 37’s React foam and thick air bag is more ideal for longer and slower runs, while the firmer Pegasus 36 is more ideal for short and tempo runs.

Conclusion

The Pegasus 37 features larger air bag which provides extra cushion in the forefoot. The increase in cushioning helps absorb the impact of the road and makes up for the stiffer ride in the forefoot from both the air bag and the thicker sole. There is enough toe spring to help with a smooth transition forward.
