For many around the world, running is more than just a sport – it’s a lifestyle, a statement, and a way to connect.

And in that ever-growing intersection of performance and fashion, adidas continues to lead with its dual identity: pushing boundaries in elite athletics while remaining deeply rooted in everyday running culture.

Charlotte Heidmann, Director of the ADIZERO franchise at adidas Running, is at the heart of that mission. In an exclusive interview, she shares what drives adidas footwear’s evolution, makes the new Adizero Boston 13 stand out, and how speed is deeply personal.

Balancing Performance and Lifestyle

“We have different products for different needs,” Charlotte explains. “ADIZERO is focused on racing and training for race day, while other lines like Supernova and Ultraboost cater to daily wear and lifestyle.”

It’s a clear reflection of how adidas blends style and science, from podium finishes to casual city runs. And while Originals and fashion collaborations lead in streetwear, the ADIZERO line speaks to runners chasing personal bests.

What’s New in the Boston 13?

The Boston 13 represents a complete redesign, built on feedback from runners and designed for those putting in serious mileage.

  • Enhanced Upper: Comfort was the top priority. “In Boston 12, some runners felt pressure from the minimal tongue and heel area,” Charlotte says. “So we added padding to improve comfort in those areas.”
  • More Lightstrike Pro: The forefoot now has 13.8% more Lightstrike Pro foam, delivering improved propulsion while keeping weight low.
  • Energy Rods: Retained from previous models, these rods between the midsole layers offer a snappy, forward-pushing sensation, ideal for tempo training.
  • New Outsole: A blend of light traction rubber from the Adios Pro 4 and Continental rubber ensures grip and durability on various surfaces.
  • Reduced Drop: The shoe now features a stack height of 36mm in the heel and 30mm in the forefoot, dropping 1mm from the Boston 12 for a more balanced feel.
Who Is the Boston 13 For?

While it’s not a racing shoe per se, the Boston 13 bridges the gap.

“It’s best for everyday runners who are already training and want to progress,” Charlotte explains.

“Maybe you’re gearing up for your first race or want a more responsive training experience.”

For true beginners, adidas offers softer options like the Supernova line. But for runners who want that taste of speed, without sacrificing comfort, the Boston 13 is the gateway.

The Essence of Speed

As someone who oversees one of the most iconic performance franchises, Charlotte reflects on what speed means to her personally.

“Speed is very individual. For me, it’s tied to the effort, the hard training for a race. It’s not just about time. It’s about that push, that progression.”

She recalls the launch of the first Adios Pro – a turning point in performance footwear. “Athletes said it was the lightest shoe they’d ever raced in. That kind of feedback tells us we’re making a real difference.”

From championing global elites to supporting everyday runners, adidas continues to innovate with heart and purpose. With the Boston 13, the brand offers a shoe that inspires, whether you’re clocking marathon miles or simply lacing up for your morning loop.

Because in the end, speed is yours to define.
