The MOE-MSSM-MILO 2024, held from May 23 to October 25, brought together Malaysia’s top young athletes to showcase their determination, teamwork, and resilience. This year’s championship just wrapped up in Ipoh, Perak, and saw an impressive 18 new records set in athletics alone.

MILO, a pioneer in the Malaysian sports scene, has supported the Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) for over 60 years, collaborating with the Ministry of Education to promote sports at the grassroots level under their mantra, “Sports are a great teacher.”

As Malaysia’s most prestigious school sports event, MOE-MSSM-MILO proves this platform paves the way for future champions. MILO believes that sports instil values like discipline, teamwork, respect, and leadership, building a strong foundation for success in sports and life.

This year, over 12,900 student-athletes from 16 contingents competed in 24 sports. The championship began in May with Cross Country in Putrajaya and continued across Penang, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, and Selangor, concluding with the Athletics event at Stadium Perak in Ipoh.

Sabah emerged as the overall champion in MSSM athletics this year, winning 23 gold medals. A highlight was Penang’s Muhammad Sayyid Amin Roslan, who set a new U-18 200m record twice, clocking 21.42 seconds in the semi-finals and 20.94 seconds in the finals, surpassing the previous record of 21.59 seconds.

Many of Malaysia’s top athletes, who have excelled at prestigious events like SUKMA, the SEA Games, the Asian Games, and the Olympics, began their journey with MSSM. Asia’s top-ranked tenpin bowler, Rafiq Ismail, a MOE-MSSM-MILO Award recipient, shared, “MSSM was a stepping stone for me. I learned that there are no shortcuts to success; every effort counts toward the overall achievement.”
