Bintulu Marathon 2025 returns to the heart of Borneo on August 3 with elite runners, RM100K in prizes, and a vibrant showcase of Sarawakian hospitality.

Bintulu is set to steal the spotlight this August as the third edition of the Bintulu Marathon promises to be its biggest yet. Scheduled for 3 August 2025, the race is expected to draw a record number of participants as it continues to establish itself as a premier running event in Malaysia and beyond.

With RM100,000 in total prize money, the marathon is racing ahead in popularity. From 3,535 runners in its 2023 debut to 5,800 participants across 19 countries in 2024, the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) is eyeing an even greater turnout in 2025.

“Our goal is to elevate the Bintulu Marathon to world-class status. We’re working towards World Athletics recognition, attracting elite runners and building something truly iconic,” said Race Director Awangku Mohd Sharifuddin Awangku Ahmad.

Malaysia’s top marathoners including Muhaizar Mohamed, Poo Vasanthan Subramaniam, Ahmad Luth Hamizan, and Haziq Hamzah, have also brought national pride to the Bintulu streets in past editions.

The 2025 race features four categories:
🏃‍♂️ Full Marathon (42.195km, 7-hour cut-off)
🏃 Half Marathon (21.1km, 4-hour cut-off)
🏃‍♀️ 10km Run (2-hour 15-min cut-off)
🏃‍♂️ 6km Fun Run (1-hour 30-min cut-off)

Prizes are up for grabs in both Open (18-39 years) and Veteran (40+) categories, with RM7,000 going to each Open champion (men and women), and RM3,000 for each Veteran winner. All top 10 finishers in every category will be rewarded. The top national male and female finishers in the Open categories will also receive a RM2,000 bonus.

But it’s more than just a race, it’s a celebration of Sarawakian culture. The marathon transforms Bintulu into a vibrant festival with local food stalls, cultural showcases, and a buzzing race village that immerses runners and supporters in the warmth of Borneo.

“We’re not just hosting a marathon, we’re crafting unforgettable moments—from bib collection to the finish line celebrations. Bintulu is ready to welcome the world.” added Awangku Mohd Sharifuddin.
