Many of us have overlooked the importance of stretching.
Incorporating stretching into your daily routine can be life-changing, especially after waking up. The first thing to do in the morning should be stretching, it will do wonders to your body.
Adding as little as 5 minutes of stretching in your daily life will change your life.
- Stretching improves blood circulation.
When you sleep, muscles relax, blood flow decreases, and your heart rate slows. If you are lying in the same sleeping position all night, your muscles tend to tighten up. Stretching in the next morning helps improve blood circulation which increases blood flow to your muscles. It is good to get your body going.
- Stretching improves body posture.
Stretching after you wake up helps relax your muscles. Tense muscles are what lead to poor posture. By keeping up with regular stretching, you are relaxing and lengthening your muscles which keep your back in better shape and improves your overall body posture.
- Stretching improves flexibility.
Stretching improves flexibility and helps joints move through their full range of motion. Flexibility is needed to keep your joints and tissues healthy. If the tissues around a joint become inflexible, your muscles can become fatigued and tight, leaving you more prone to injuries like muscle strains or ligament tears.
- Stretching prevents back pain.
After waking up, you tend to feel tense muscles. Some of you might encounter back and neck pain. Stretching in the morning will relieve pain by reducing the tension on your spine or any other body stiffness you are experiencing. It helps reduce tension in muscles supporting the spine. Tension in these muscles can worsen pain from any number of back pain conditions.
- Stretching relieves stress.
Stretching can help tame tension both physically and mentally, as it relieves tight muscles while tricking you into feeling more relaxed. However, stretching should never be forced. You should be able to relax into a stretch. If you’re in pain, you’re doing it wrong.
